New York, NY

This was our second project for our clients and our first time our office was commissioned to design an addition to an apartment we had previously designed. Days after the first project was completed and our clients moved in, our client’s next door neighbor slipped a note under their door and asked if they would be interested in purchasing his studio apartment. Our client said yes and we were hired to turn the studio into a master bedroom suite.

The first apartment was originally a one bedroom which we converted into a studio with entry, shoe closet, shower room, galley kitchen, living/dining space, bedroom and office niches. Our clients wanted a master suite with a large bathroom and wanted their bedroom to be a part of the living space, but at the same time it needed to be separate. Entry, shoe closet, shower room, kitchen and office niche remained the same. We converted the bedroom niche into a den, divided the living space into third’s, the living space occupied 2/3 thirds and the bedroom occupied the remaining 1/3. The separation of the two spaces was divided by a custom un lacquered brass and obscured glass screen, the middle portion of the screen is fixed while either side are sliding panels. The frosted glass sliding doors originally providing privacy and natural light for the bedroom niche were removed and replaced with custom sliding doors made of un lacquered brass and obscured glass to match the room divider in the living space. Behind the master bed, we created a new home office niche clad in custom fumed European oak paneling. The idea for the master bathroom was to create a Spa, a space where you could bathe, unwind and change clothes. The walls and floor are covered in Italian Travertino Brioni. The closets are clad in the custom fumed European oak paneling with line in white oak veneered interiors. The sink and shelf below are custom made from the same stone. The medicine is custom framed and lined in un lacquered brass. The walk in shower has a grey tinted mirror creating the illusion of a larger space and it provides a bit of sexiness as well. Beyond the shower is the toilet room with a custom privacy door made of un lacquered brass and obscured glass.
